Immunisations for Children:
Immunisation at Mernda Village Medical is quick and convenient. It is carried out by our nursing staff under supervision of our doctors.

We strongly encourage all children to be immunised according to the Australian Childhood Vaccination Schedule

http://www.immunise.health.gov.au

A complete range of childhood vaccines is available at our clinic. If you have a child under 6 months of age, you should be immunised against whooping cough. The Victorian government is currently funding this for parents of children under 6 months.

All immunisations are reported to the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR) to assist in reminding parents when further immunisations are due.

Please feel free to discuss your child’s immunisation needs with your doctor.

Immunisation For Adults:
Many adults need to be immunised too. If you suffer from a chronic health condition, or are over 65, you are eligible for government-subsidised influenza and pneumonia vaccination.

Immunisation for Travel:
We keep travel vaccines in stock which means we can make travel immunisation simple for you by giving it to you on the same day as your consultation where appropriate.

Chronic Disease Management
Our team takes a special interest in chronic disease management.

Chronic medical conditions:
A chronic medical condition is one that has been (or is likely to be) present for six months or longer. It includes, but is not limited to, conditions such as:

  • Asthma
  • Chronic lung disease (emphysema/bronchitis/copd)
  • Cancer
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • High blood pressure
  • Arthritis
  • Stroke, etc

Evidence has shown that chronic diseases are best treated in a planned setting with regular GP reviews and specialist input where appropriate. This can be achieved through something called a gp management plan (or care plan). Our team can help you determine whether a plan is appropriate for you.

GP Management Plan (Bulk Billed)
A GP Management Plan (GPMP) can help people with chronic medical conditions by providing a comprehensive, organised approach to care. A GPMP is a plan of action that you have agreed with your GP.

Team Care Arrangements (TCA) (Bulk Billed)
If you have a chronic medical condition and complex care needs, your GP may also develop team care arrangements (TCA).  These help your GP coordinate the care you need from other health care providers involved in the management of your health.

Payment Arrangements:
Developing a GPMP or TCA can much more time than a normal consultation. Please advise our reception that the appointment is for a care plan and we will book a longer appointment.

Travel Health
If you are planning travel overseas, you may well need immunisation and travel advice. We recommend you register with Smart Traveller, run by the Federal Government of Australia.

http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/

Please book a travel consultation to discuss your travels, and appropriate treatment.

We now stock most common travel immunisations which means you can be assured that you can get the protection you need in a convenient manner.

Please inform reception that you need travel advice at the time of booking.

Please book separate appointments for all members of the family willing to travel. Travel vaccines are not provided by government agencies and will need to be purchased.
